... and get the most out of the podcast!
First of all, thank you for being here.
I've been teaching Norwegian since 2014, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's this:
There isn't one perfect way to learn a language.
Some days you'll have lots of energy.
Some days you'll barely have ten minutes.
Some days you'll want grammar.
Other days you'll just want someone to speak Norwegian into your ears while you're out walking.
That's exactly why I created this podcast.
Use it in the way that works best for you.
1. Start with today's goal
"Choose the resource that helps you today, not the one you think you should use."
Forget about whether or not what you are interested in learning, is suitable for your level.
Whatever interests you, sticks more easily (and keeps you more easily motivated).
Therefore, before you choose an episode, ask yourself:
What do I want today?
Maybe you want to...
- practise listening
- improve your pronunciation
- understand grammar
- learn new vocabulary or expressions
- explore Norwegian culture
There is no correct order.
2. Browse by category
Instead of listening from Episode 1, explore the categories.
Choose whatever is useful today.
And if you're looking for something that isn't there yet...
Send me a message!
Most episodes begin as requests from listeners and students.
3. Listening comes first
Whenever possible...
Listen first.
Even if you don't understand everything.
Your brain learns much more from trying than from reading first.
Afterwards you can always:
- read the transcript
- check the vocabulary
- read the grammar notes
Think of these as support—not as the main lesson.
4. Finding the right level
If you're using the graded listening episodes...
Start at the level you think you are.
Or even one level lower.
If it feels easy...
Go up.
The ideal level is one where:
✅ you understand most of the episode
✅ you still hear new words and expressions
✅ you have to concentrate a little
But...
❌ not so difficult that you're completely lost.
That is where learning happens.
5. You don't have to understand everything
Many learners stop because they don't understand every word.
Don't.
Even Norwegians don't pay attention to every word they hear.
Focus on understanding the message.
The details will come later.
6. Learning doesn't happen here
This may sound strange...
But my goal isn't to keep you on this website.
My goal is to help you leave it.
Go outside.
Talk to people.
Order a coffee.
Make mistakes.
Listen to Norwegian.
Live your life.
The podcast gives you input.
Real life turns that input into language.
7. Keep it enjoyable
Learning Norwegian shouldn't feel like homework.
Listen while you:
🚶 go for a walk
🚗 drive
🚆 commute
🍳 cook
🧹 clean
☕ relax
The more naturally Norwegian becomes part of your day...
…the faster you'll improve.
8. Personal use
